DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
I have always been fascinated by the landscape of Iceland, and how those landscapes tell a story themselves. I was interested in making a film that not only pushed short film narrative style, but also could be one of the most beautiful shorts ever shot. Arcadia’s inception began many years ago, where I kept on imagining two characters on this do or die journey, and how the environment turned them into simply two humans wanting to survive. I wanted to funnel all of the tensions of growing up in the 21st century, and metaphorically let it play out over a fictional construct.
When I wrote Arcadia, I always had in mind an idea for a much larger film, or possibly a series to come after it. I would like to further explore not only just climate change catalysts, but also economic and societal disasters that could be a glimpse of the future.
